Getting Home to memories of mouldy potatoes
it's raining!
It was goodbye to Daphne as we piled her onto a cargo boat, goodbye to beans and bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner, goodbye to foreign writings and McDonalds that sell McArabia burgers and a big goodbye Africa.
Armed only with a small bag Rob and I strode off to the bus station (fittingly at sunset) thinking that there had never been less to worry about. It was only 22 hours later after we had spent 6 hours on a bus to Cairo, 4 hours in Cairo Airport waiting to buy a ticket, 5 hours on a plane, 5 hours in Rome Airport trying desperately to sleep, another hour on a flight to France and another hour still in the airport that I remembered that we had left a raw potato and an opened carton of milk in one of Daphne’s draws. That was the 28th of July and she’s not due back in the UK till the 25th of August so you do the math.
As our trip had come to a fairly swift end we decided we might need a little recuperation before hitting British soil and its weather and we therefore detoured through the South of France where we stayed with some friends. Despite 9 portions of fruit and vedge a day, beautiful sunshine and relaxation we still managed to get ill. I think the adrenalin has finally been exhausted.
Now back at home both of us seem to be spending the majority of our days on the internet sending off CVs – not quite as exciting as feeding lions or rescuing turtles but at least we have great background pictures!
Oh and our first article is now out in Land Rover Enthusiast (yes there is such a publication) browse it at a WHSmiths near you!
